Clean Water Shortage, Peoples in Sekotong Hope for Assistance

ASARNews, Sekotong – The volunteer team from ASAR Humanity Mataram conducted an assessment in one of the villages in Sekotong, West Lombok, which is facing a clean water shortage, making it difficult for residents to carry out daily activities. Several residents have expressed concern about the worsening lack of access to clean water, especially during the dry season, on Saturday (12/10).

Sekotong Village is located at the western tip of Lombok Island and has a geographical condition where most of the area is situated in highlands, while the lowlands are directly adjacent to the beach or sea. Residents in the highland areas face difficulties in obtaining water through well drilling due to the predominance of rocky terrain, while in the coastal areas, fresh water is hard to find as the wells tend to be brackish due to contamination from seawater.

The situation worsens during the dry season when wells in the foothills dry up. Many residents are forced to buy clean water, while the average standard of living in the area is low.

“Residents here are really struggling with clean water. Many wells have dried up and cannot be pumped by machines,” complained Pak Azmi, Head of Medang Hamlet in West Sekotong. He hopes that more kind-hearted people will be willing to send clean water assistance that can be distributed through water trucks, or even better, efforts to build deep wells in the area.

The clean water shortage in Sekotong has become a major issue for the local community, making it difficult for them to take care of their gardens, livestock, and carry out daily life
